Last Thursday Grandma Ellie came to Atlanta to visit us. Ryan was very excited about this and all the way to school that morning he kept telling me that Ga-Ma was coming to his house after school. Daddy, Ga-Ma, Ryan and Owen went out for pizza and had a blast. I hear that Ryan wasn’t so warm and friendly with Ga-Ma at first, but it didn’t take long for this to change. Owen was a different story; he didn’t really warm up after a long day at school and very little napping. Unfortunately, I had a big event that night for the association I work for (SHRM-Atlanta) and didn’t get home until really late so I missed all the fun.

Friday, Ga-Ma and mommy spent the morning at Spa Sydell and mommy had a much, much, MUCH needed hot stone massage and pedicure. It was awesome! At first I couldn’t imagine being able to relax after the not so great few weeks I’ve had, but with the first hot stone, I gave in and was completely zoned out. It was awesome.

Saturday morning Ga-Pa Paul flew in too! Ryan was so excited to see him after nap and it was the first thing he said when he woke up “Ga-Pa here. I go downstairs see Ga-Pa momma.” Ryan had a blast the rest of the evening and played and played and played. Again, Owen wasn’t so sure of yet another stranger in HIS house.

Ga-Pa brought matching hats for the boys and Owen LOVED his. Ryan wouldn’t keep his on long, but he liked to wear it anytime we gave O-wee attention in his.

We attempted some pics of the boys together, but as usual they wouldn’t cooperate at the same time. I do love the first one of them looking at each other and even though you can’t see their faces clearly you can tell how much they truly do love each other!! Oh… brotherly love.

On Sunday morning we were going to go out for breakfast and then get family photos taken, but when our phone rang at 5:45am on Sunday morning, we figured it couldn’t be good news. And it wasn’t. Ga-Pa Paul fell getting out of the shower and fractured his wrist so they were heading to the ER. First of all, why did anyone willing get up that early in the morning? And already getting OUT of the shower? Man… we were still sound asleep snug in our bed and Ga-Ma and Ga-Pa were already getting ready for the day. They are more ambitious than these two tired parents!!
When Ga-Ma and Ga-Pa arrived at our house, Ryan was amazed with this big cast/wrap on Ga-Pa’s arm. He just kept saying over and over again “Ga-Pa got a boo-boo. Ga-Pa got a BIIIIIG ban-aid.” Ryan was very concerned and would have kissed his arm a million times throughout the day if he could have. He really did have a good time with Ga-Ma Ellie and Ga-Pa Paul!
And still, O-wee wasn’t so sure about these two people. He seemed to be ok as long as mommy or daddy were around, but just wasn’t sure what to make of the situation when mommy and daddy walked out of the room and left him. Or if he left our arms for anyone elses.

It was a great weekend despite Ga-Pa’s boo-boo and now we are looking forward to more Kohl family fun in December when we all go on a cruise together. Should make for some interesting posts…. you won’t want to miss reading about that adventure with two toddlers!!

I have commented numerous times about how great Ryan does with his big boy bed. He takes naps and goes night-night very well. He doesn’t get off his bed and he is just so good. He will lay there all snug and read books or sing or talk, but never does he get off his bed before we come in.

Today was the exception to that norm. Jim heard Ryan making very quiet noises in his room about the time he should be waking up from nap so he went in there to find quite the surprise.

Ryan was covered (and I mean absolutely covered!) in Baby Vicks Rub!! Yes, it was in his hair, on his shirt, all over his arms, all over his face (cheeks, forehead, nose, eyes, chin!!) and even down his legs.

When he was caught (BUSTED!), he just innocently looked up and said in a quiet and sweet voice “Hi momma. I put on.” Yes Ryan, you did put on!! He ended up with a bath and then after dinner a shower. The Vicks still isn’t out of his air and every now and then when you look at him you see a little shiny shimmer and yep, the Vicks reappears again!

Did I mention it was the ENTIRE tub of Vicks?!?!

Ryan and Owen started in their “big boy” classrooms back on May 11th. Of course, mommy had to take photos to document this move.

Ryan has to wear a uniform shirt now. This could have gone two ways… 1.) He could hate having to wear this uniform shirt and we could struggle every single day getting dressed. This option was very likely because he wanted to pick out his shirt everyday and had a definite opinion of what he wore each day. 2.) He could LOVE wearing his uniform shirt and cry at night when we take it off of him to put pjs on.

Luckily for us, it’s been option 2 so far. I would rather deal with the struggle and fight at night than in the morning when we are rushing to get out the door and to school/work.

I tried to get a photo of the boys together, but as usual, it didn’t turn out as I envisioned. But from the looks of it, they were cracking each other up! Ryan was laughing histerically about something and no sooner did he stop, when Owen started cracking up.

Of course, after watching this brotherly love, I started cracking up at them!

Our day lillies started blooming last week and I wanted to get some photos of them this year. So why not take advantage of the semi-good moods of Ryan and Owen and try to capture a few of the boys together. This quickly turned disaster and we had to go inside because Ryan kept picking the flowers and he refused to sit too close to O-wee because he kept saying “no sit near O-wee. O-wee take Ryan’s fowers.”

I couldn’t blame him though. Owen really was trying to take Ryan’s flowers. But Ryan shouldn’t have picked the flower in the first place, so I’m not sure who was in more trouble at that point. Luckily for Owen, his sweet and innocent face saves him everytime!

Enjoy my attempt at what I originally thought would be a perfect photo opp! I hope this weekend’s photos go better at Portrait Innovations….

The planning for the 3rd Annual Music for Megan & Mito Fest is kicking off. And my sister-in-law Laura could really use some additional help this year.

Laura is having to deal with alot of new mito complications that Megan has recently been encountering. Megan has been having consistent seizures and continues to stop breathing randomly. Megan is now on 24 hour O2 which is helping, but hasn’t completely eliminated the breathing issues. She has also started a medication to help with the seizures, but it hasn’t eliminated them. Learn more about Megan on her carepage here.

What I am asking from all of my friends, family and business contacts is to please donate to this cause this year. I know it’s a tough economy and finances may not be as secure as they once were, but pay it forward. Please think of little Megan and all she has been going through this year already. Your donation doesn’t need to be monetary. It can be a product, a service or even your time. Everything counts and would be appreciated.

There will be a silent auction and raffle drawing at the concert. Do you have something you could donate for this? A restaurant or store gift card; a round of golf; sporting tickets; photography sessions; gift baskets; spa certificates; movie passes; monogramming; etc.

Or if you have a few small items you would like to donate, I could assemble some gift baskets. Maybe we could put together a family fun night basket and collect board games, playing cards, popcorn and movie gift cards. Or maybe a Crayola fun basket with all different types of art supplies and paper and coloring books? If you are willing to donate even one of these items, I would be happy to collect the items and put these baskets together. It’s only a few dollars from each person and it’s going to such a great cause.

Anything you can do would be appreciated. Please email me at jean.yahres@comcast.net if you are interested in helping.
