Our neighborhood had its annual Halloween parade and pizza party last night. Grandad and Grandmom came down from Big Canoe to see the boys all dressed up and to participate in the fun. Ryan LOVES his Grandad and was so excited for him to be here. Ryan, of course, played the shy-guy for a bit, but quickly overcame that and was Grandad’s side kick for the night.

After the parade, Ryan (aka Superman) enjoyed a slice of pizza and refueled for his evening of fun with Grandad and Grandmom.

Our little giraffe (aka Owen) also enjoyed the parade and Halloween festivities. He looked so cute in his little outfit and just chilled while checking everyone out.

Daddy made a super yummy dinner for everyone. We had boneless pork ribs from the crockpot and another homemade “pump-min” pie for dessert. We won’t get into the story about pumpkin pie on the ceiling, but I will mention that daddy cleaned up the entire kitchen (several times) before the day was over. And we all enjoyed his delicious dinner!
After dinner Ryan brought Grandad about 100 books to read and being the good sport that Grandad is, he read most of them even if Ryan was distracted by the balloons on the ceiling and wasn’t listening to the actual story. Ryan also put on a good show singing Elmo’s song to everyone and dancing. He was in rare form last night. It could have been that it was about 2+ hours past his normal bedtime, but he was having so much fun that we couldn’t put him down for the night.

Vail Baby

How cute is our Vail baby with his spikey hairdo?! He’s ready to head to Colorado to hit the slopes. Mommy, why didn’t you bring me out to CO with you for Kate’s wedding (photos to come from that trip soon!)?? Peace, baby, Peace.

Here is a cute photo of Owen imitating whatever it is daddy is doing. He was all smiles last night playing and having a good time until he drank his bottle and crashed. Mommy wasn’t far behind…..

The other night daddy and Ryan decided to make homemade pumpkin pie. Yep, that’s right, homemade pumpkin pie. They scraped out all the “goop” in the pumpkin and they made the pie from scratch. Well not completely from scratch since the pie crust was fresh from the frozen section at Publix, but they made the hard part, the pie itself from scratch.

Ryan LOVES pumpkin pie. Or as he calls it “pump-min pie.” Every night after dinner (and some nights before dinner he politely asks for some “pump-min pie” and points at the fridge.

We also discovered another family member who likes “pump-min pie.” This particular family member doesn’t ask for it though, she just helps herself to it if it happens to be sitting on the kitchen counter. Yep, that’s right… Delta loves pumpkin pie too. After having herself a bad week — she ate the homemade chicken pot pie from the counter as well as the cheesy chicken enchiladas another night. And of course, the piece of pumpkin pie. She found herself spending the day outside. I’m not sure you’d really call this “punishment” though since she looked like she thoroughly enjoyed herself on such a sunny day. Oh well.

On Saturday we went to a pumpkin patch in Newnan, GA to enjoy the fall weather. Ryan loved all the animals in the petting zoo; he got to see goats, ducks, bunnies, sheep and chickens. He also “drove” the tractor for the hay ride. He loved the hay ride. He sat on daddy’s lap and just relaxed and took in the fall scenery and weather. Our driver stopped by the horses and let everyone feed them some hay. Ryan loved how close the horses were to us and just sat in amazement staring at them. Every day when we drive by the horse pasture by our house, you hear a faint (sometimes not so faint!) “neigh, neigh” from the backseat.

Owen also enjoyed his first pumpkin patch experience. He was all snuggled in the baby bjorn and slept through a good portion of it, but in our opinion, if he’s not crying, it’s a successful day.

Ryan and Owen helped pick out our 2008 pumpkins. We even bought some pumpkins to make homemade pumpkin pie. I’m sure I’ll be posting again on the success (or failure) of this experience since neither Jim nor I have ever made a homemade pumpkin pie. I’m not sure it’s going to be worth all the work; isn’t there a reason they can the “gloop” and make it simple for us?? Lets take advantage of it!! But we’ll try it this year and see how it goes….

Our Pumpkin Patch adventure was a success and we even ate at a Chick-fil-a Dwarf House. I had never heard of this place before, but it was really neat.

Next weekend we have even more Halloween fun lined up with the neighborhood parade and party. We may even venture to another pumpkin patch since we had so much fun this last weekend….

Ryan’s school (Sunbrook Acadamy of Vinings) had their annual fall festival on Friday night and yes, Ryan got a tattoo. You would have thought it was the real deal with the look of pain he had as they stuck it on his arm. He winced and whined the rest of the night over the new dinosaur friend he had on his right arm! Ouch-ee Mama!

The fall festival was so much fun and Ryan jumped and jumped and jumped in the bouncy castle. He would run back and forth screaming; I’ve never heard him scream like that before. It was so fun to see how excited he was and how much fun he was having.

Owen Got a 97%….

It’s official… Owen’s growing like a weed. He had his 2 month well check today and weighed in at 14 pounds and 10 ounces. In two months he has gained 5 pounds and 5 ounces which is the 97th percentile for his age. His height was at 74% and his head at 55%. The numbers sound completely off from each other, but these are well proportioned percentages. I promise he doesn’t have a little head!!

Owen still has a lot of hair and every single piece likes to stick up straight on the top of his head. Dr. Beckford (our pediatrician) loves his hairdo and had every nurse and doctor stop into our room today to see it. It was pretty funny! Mommy is always trying to make it lay flat on his head, but Daddy is always slicking it back.

Owen has now become very social and loves to smile and coo. Yesterday he was completely amused with watching himself in the mirror on his swing. He was cooing and smiling and having a great time! I can’t wait until he starts laughing and be more interactive with Ryan. I don’t want to rush it though because I’m enjoying every single minute of my little guy. He is such a joy and even when he has his cranky times and screams at the top of his lungs, he is still such a sweet little guy. And he slept through the entire night last night which was the best thing in the world. It felt so good to get a good night’s sleep for once. Although I’m not counting on him doing it again tonight since he slept most of today after he had his 2 month shots.

As for Ryan, he was home sick yesterday with an ear and sinus infection. We thought he had pink eye, but it turned out that it was a little cold that developed into a sinus infection which then drained into his ear and was making his eyes water and get all crusty. Oh joy! Here we go again with another winter of ear infections, running noses and colds. And even though Owen won’t be going to daycare until December/January I’m sure he’ll also catch everything that Ryan brings home with him.

I have to start working again tomorrow. I’m NOT looking forward to it at all. Don’t get me wrong, I like my job and the people I work with, but how can anything compare to spending the day snuggling their baby? I’ll be working from home for awhile since we can’t get into daycare until Decemberish so at least I won’t be dropping him off tomorrow. He’ll still be home with me and will be playing and napping while I try to get back into the swing of actually working. Did I mention that I am NOT looking forward to this change???

Owen Doing Time…

Tummy time that is….
Everyone tells me I have such big blue eyes, but I just don’t see it…

I’ve been enjoying this rainy day playing with mommy today. I know she has to start working next week and I’m dreading not having her attention 24/7. I know she’s dreading it just as much though so I’ll try not to give her too hard of a time about going back. I’m also trying to sleep a little more at night. I can now make it from about 10pm until 3am which seems to make mommy happy and a little less crabby. Although I haven’t been going back to sleep after my 3am feeding so that’s been entertaining. The house is pretty quiet in the wee hours of the morning so I like to stir things up and play a bit.

Can you believe I’m 8 weeks old today? Where has the time gone? To date, I love to coo and smile and watch my fishies spin around on my aquarium bouncer. I love when my big brother gives me attention and I love even more when daddy slicks my hair back. I smile and coo when he does this. Mommy is always trying to make my hair lay flat, but dad’s cool and slicks it back up for me. I think I look like a little stud muffin with it sticking straight up on my head; the ladies flock to me just to touch it. Aaaaahhhhh….. already a ladies man.

Love, Owen
